Air fryers are becoming a kitchen staple for many of us, these days.
They're great for many resaons, coming trumps when it comes to health and energy efficiency, in comparison to an oven.
However, experts are warning that no matter whether you own a top of the range Ninja or a cheaper supermarket model, you should be careful to avoid one big mistake.
The clincher is that it's probably something we're all doing, without even realising we shouldn't.

Newsflash...you should not be leaving your air fryer plugged in under any circumstances.
Okay, we all know its better to unplug devices between use, but did you know that leaving your air fyrer plugged in could not only rack up your energy bill but also pose safety risks.
Speaking to Ideal Home, James Longley, managing director at Utility Bidder, said: "Air fryers, like many other kitchen appliances, continue to draw electricity even when not actively in use if they remain plugged in.
"Although the power consumption when turned off is relatively low compared to when the appliance is actively cooking, it can still contribute to energy wastage and pose potential safety risks if left unattended for extended periods."

This is because, as James explains, "any electrical appliance carries a potential fire hazard if left unattended or in case of malfunction."
So, the risks are similar for anything else you leave plugged in (known as a 'zombie' device) – low, but it only takes a second to ensure to risk at all.
"As long as the mains plug is plugged into the socket, live voltage exists in any appliance – including air fryers – even if the appliance is switched off," adds Lydia Mallinson, marketing manager at ZWILLING.
She adds this is why it's particularly important not to clean your air fryer if it's plugged in, given water is a conductor of electricity.

"Make sure to unplug the mains plug from the socket prior to maintenance or cleaning of the air fryer," Lydia continues.
So, there you have it. Make sure you unplug your air fryer every time you're finished using it. Not a big ask, and it sounds like the risk (however minor) isn't worth it.
You're welcome!
